Top 5 yoga studios of Mitte

For many Berliners it becomes more and more important to live healthy. Regular sport, well-balanced food, enough sleep. Everybody has his own recipe. Recently yoga has become very popular. People who were completely devoted to their professional life, starting to follow a certain routine everyday like joining yoga classes. Because the aim of yoga is not to work yourself into the ground, but to let go spiritually and strengthen mentally. Caused by a bike accident I had a lot of pain in my shoulder, through yoga I optimized my posture and are finally pain-free. But I also found a way to relax. I learned that starting the day with looking in my in-box full of e-mails, is maybe not the best idea. With yoga I could flee the stress of work and strengthen myself for the day.

Luckily for you, I am working on a YogaBerlin map. It took time and sweat, but here you have my Top 5 yoga studios of Mitte. If you want to find more hidden gems of the German capital, pick a map in my shop.

Tea, martial art and Yoga in Berlin Mitte

Yoga at Chimosa

It's a studio where martial art, yoga and meditation come together in a neat, modern atmosphere. Never mind if you are a beginner or more advanced, you can start practising anytime. The name Chimosa consists of the homeland of both founders: CHIna and ForMOSA (Taiwan). While Yi-Chung is responsible for the sporty side of things, Jing has devoted her love to tea. Except summer she masters Chinese tea ceremony. After each lesson, a delicious cup of tea is waiting for you. Of course you can buy this very special tea directly at the studio and even attend tea-seminars. If you make an appointment, you can also try one lesson - yoga or martial art - for free.

Ashtanga Yoga Berlin in Mitte
Ashtanga Yoga Berlin in Mitte

Ashtanga Yoga Berlin

Since 2004, Grischa teaches Ashtanga in his own yoga studio in Berlin Mitte. Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga is a dynamic, powerful (Hatha-) yoga tradition which was taught by Pattabhi Jois in Mysore/India. It is based on the ancient principles of the Vinyasa Krama: every yoga position (asana) is synchronised with the breathing technique ("Ujjayyi").

For Grischa, it is important to continue the tradition of teaching yoga one-to-one, Mysore-style. In Mysore, you practice yoga in small groups of 8-10 people; this allows the teacher to work with each yogi individually. The beauty of this class is that you take it at your own pace: you show up between 7-11h, 12-14h, 17:30-20:30h - and start your yoga practice at anytime. There is a Hatha sequence which you flow through. The teacher moves among the yogis, adjusting & responding to each student one at a time. As opposed to (more Western) front-facing and teacher-lead lessons, Mysore enables you to take the vital step to practice independently, with the help of an experienced yoga teacher close by. The studio offers a drop-in option for 15 Euro, but I would really recommend the offer of ten tickets for 120 Euro, as you really start learning the flow after the third lesson.
